Starting to Take Shape

With the weekly arrival of a new truckload of exhibit components, the Discovery Centre space is finally starting to take shape! Of course, we are still a long way from completion but we are seeing some progress and this is very heartwarming!

This is a sneak peek at the future gift shop. Much brighter and more inviting to guests who are looking for a little something to take home following their visit.

The new entrance to the exhibits, pictured above, will now be located across from the access to the theatre, in what used the be a separate room (Feature Hall). This will create a better flow through the themes. Interestingly, this was part of the original design 30 years ago but was changed at the last minute.

What used to be the main access to the exhibits will now be a short hallway that will display our extensive decoy collection and provide a timeline of the history of Oak Hammock Marsh and Ducks Unlimited Canada.

The former Feature Hall is now starting to look like an exhibit room again! It will introduce visitors to the concept of a healthy wetland as well as showcase some of the species found at the Marsh.

A main highlight of our exhibits will be in the Morrison Wetland Hall where the “Wall of Species” will be located. It will showcase the huge biodiversity of species that live in wetlands, illustrating what makes them such an important ecosystem. This will be made up of live animals, naturalized mounts, digital displays and more.

While the exhibits areas are progressing nicely on the Wetland Discovery Centre, the construction team is now focusing on the Conference Centre and DUC offices. Stay tune for more updates!
