Before and After

As we are getting closer to our reopening, we thought we would share some before and after pictures of the Wetland Discovery Centre. Here is a quick overview of some public areas that have undergone some major changes.

One of the first areas to be transformed was the theatre. Upgraded sound and projection systems as well as enhanced lighting and a much-needed refreshed look definitely made this venue more attractive and inviting for visitors. It also now offers better facilities for rentals such as for corporate events.

What was formerly known as the Feature Hall, a small room that was primarily used to host temporary exhibits, has now been converted into the main entrance to visit the exhibit areas. It features the various plants and animal species founds in wetlands habitats. This is where visitors can find the MicroEye, among other things, to take a closer look at the magnified world of underwater critters.

This hallway, formerly known as the Story of Oak Hammock, was the main access to the exhibits. It is now telling the story of Ducks Unlimited Canada as well as Oak Hammock Marsh over the last few decades using decoys as its timeline.

The Morrison Wetlands hall, which houses the majority of the exhibits has also undergone a major revitalization with the addition of new walls to divide the large room into smaller sections, each telling a story about wetlands, their importance and their conservation. The main showcase of the room is the Wall of species which highlight several wetland species from floor to ceiling!

Located on the second floor and offering an amazing view of the marsh, the café also received a makeover as well as a slightly different layout. The cooking and food preparation area has been upgraded and the sitting area now features a more contemporary look. Gone are the 90’s curves and colours!

Last but not least is the diorama. As the first sight visitors experience when entering the Discovery Centre, this tired-looking display has been receiving some much-needed attention. Faded feathers and furs have regained their beautiful original colours and a new day and night cycle has been added with matching soundscape to bring this favourite exhibit to life.

Many more areas have received major upgrades and we are looking forward to show them all to you once we finally open later this spring
