First shipment of exhibits has arrived!

Although construction and renovation of the Wetland Discovery Centre is still underway, some exhibits are starting to arrive for installation. A truck loaded with new exhibits, built in Ontario by Kubik, will arrive every 2 weeks with a crew who will to start assembling everything as it arrives. The first shipment to arrive was the shelving for our Feature Hall exhibition, decoy wall, as well as main counter for the new and redesigned gift shop.

These Wetland Feature Hall cases will feature some of the species found at Oak Hammock Marsh and define what wetlands are all about. This “Wildlife of Wetlands” area will be the new official entrance to the Discovery Centre exhibits and will guide visitors in exploring what wetlands are and what keystone animals and plants can be found in them.

These new baffling structures roughly shaped like birds (made from recycled materials) will grace the ceiling of the Wetland Morrison Hall to help reduce the noise as well as add an artistic touch to the vast vertical space next to the new Wall of Species. The Wall of Species will introduce visitors to the incredible biodiversity of species found in wetlands. It will be a floor to ceiling display!

The journey trough the exhibitions will be quite different from what visitors have been used to. What was once a large open space with a scattering of somewhat disjointed displays depicting various aspects of wetlands is now a more linear and progressive path. This permits guests of all ages to explore at their own pace rather than be overwhelmed by everything all at once. In order to accomplish this, some walls were added, such as this main curved wall dividing the large Morrison Wetland Hall in two.

While it is very exciting to see some progress being made on the Wetland Discovery Centre, the full building renovation still a long way from completion. Please stay tune form more updates.
